Ideal Body Weight (IBW) is a reference weight range associated with lowest mortality. This calculator provides four medical formulas and BMI range to help you understand your healthy weight goals.
Ideal Body Weight (IBW) is a reference weight associated with lowest mortality, commonly used for clinical dosing and health assessment. It's a guideline, not an absolute standard.
Devine is most used clinically; Hamwi is common in nutrition assessment; Miller and Robinson are newer revisions. Taking an average of all four is recommended.
Large frames add about 5-10% to IBW; small frames subtract about 5-10%. Medium frame uses standard formula.
BMI is an index relating weight to height. IBW gives a specific weight target. Healthy BMI range is 18.5-24.9.
IBW is a reference, not an absolute. If you're in the healthy BMI range (18.5-24.9) and exercise regularly, being slightly above IBW is fine.
